Born in Steubenville, Ohio, in 1917, he initially found colossal success in the late 1940s and early 1950s as the suave straight man alongside comic partner Jerry Lewis. After their split, Martin forged an exceptional solo career, recording classic ballads such as That's Amore and starring in celebrated films including Rio Bravo. He also anchored a beloved television variety show throughout the late 1960s. Martin retired from public performances in the early 1990s and died in Beverly Hills on Christmas Day in 1995.
