Fats Domino
Music: pianist, singer, songwriter, United States
Fats Domino was an American pianist, singer, and songwriter whose warm Creole vocals and rolling piano figures made him one of the foremost pioneers of early rock and roll. Born in New Orleans in 1928, he scored an early breakthrough with The Fat Man in 1949, often cited as an inaugural rock-and-roll recording. Throughout the mid-to-late 1950s, he achieved unmatched crossover popularity with timeless hits such as Ain't That a Shame and Blueberry Hill. Domino remained devoted to his Louisiana roots throughout his life, rarely touring in his final decades. He died peacefully near New Orleans in 2017 at the age of eighty-nine.
