Marc Bolan
Music: singer, songwriter, guitarist, United Kingdom
Marc Bolan was an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist who spearheaded the British glam rock movement of the early 1970s. Born in London in 1947, he began in acoustic psychedelic folk with Tyrannosaurus Rex before plugging in an electric guitar and shortening the group name to T. Rex. Bolan ignited 'T. Rextasy' with chart-topping anthems like Get It On and albums such as Electric Warrior, blending glittery theatricality with catchy rock riffs. His vibrant pop stardom inspired a generation of punk and post-punk musicians. Bolan's life ended prematurely in September 1977 when he was killed in a car crash in Barnes, London, two weeks before his thirtieth birthday.
