Marlon Brando
Film: actor, director, United States
Marlon Brando was an American actor widely regarded as one of the most influential screen performers of the twentieth century. Born in Omaha, Nebraska, he revolutionised film acting through his visceral, psychological naturalism, first captured on screen in A Streetcar Named Desire in 1951 and his Oscar-winning turn in On the Waterfront in 1954. After an uneven decade in the 1960s, he achieved an extraordinary artistic resurgence in 1972 as Vito Corleone in The Godfather, followed by provocative work in Last Tango in Paris and Apocalypse Now. He died of respiratory failure in Los Angeles in July 2004 at the age of eighty.
