Patsy Cline

Music: singer, United States

Patsy Cline was an American country singer whose rich, expressive contralto helped define the polished Nashville sound. After breaking through on television in 1957 with Walkin' After Midnight, she teamed with producer Owen Bradley to record classic torch songs such as I Fall to Pieces and Willie Nelson's Crazy. Her refined vocal phrasing bridged traditional country sentiments with orchestral pop arrangements, establishing her as one of the most celebrated vocalists of the twentieth century. Cline died in a plane crash near Camden, Tennessee, in March 1963 at thirty years of age.
