Peter Sellers

Film: comedian, actor, singer, United Kingdom

Peter Sellers was an English comic actor and impressionist celebrated for his extraordinary vocal versatility and protean character work. He first came to prominence on BBC radio's surreal comedy series The Goon Show during the 1950s before establishing an international film career. Sellers became famous globally as the bumbling Inspector Clouseau in Blake Edwards's Pink Panther series and demonstrated dazzling satirical range by playing three distinct roles in Stanley Kubrick's Dr. Strangelove. In 1979, he gave a quiet, critically acclaimed turn in Being There, earning an Oscar nomination. Plagued by poor health, Sellers died in London following a heart attack in July 1980 at the age of fifty-four.
