Spencer Tracy
Film: actor, United States
Spencer Tracy was an American screen actor revered for his naturalistic performances and emotional authenticity. Initially emerging from Broadway, he found fame at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, becoming the first actor to win consecutive Academy Awards for Best Actor for Captains Courageous in 1937 and Boys Town in 1938. Tracy formed one of cinema's most famous partnerships with Katharine Hepburn, collaborating on nine witty, character-driven pictures over twenty-five years. A versatile performer capable of rough cynicism or paternal warmth, he was nominated for nine Best Actor Oscars throughout his career. Tracy completed his final performance in Guess Who's Coming to Dinner mere days before dying in Los Angeles in 1967.
