Henry Fonda
Film: actor, United States
Henry Fonda was an acclaimed American stage and screen actor celebrated for his understated naturalism and integrity. He came to prominence in the late 1930s, forming a productive creative relationship with director John Ford on projects including The Grapes of Wrath and My Darling Clementine. Fonda effortlessly portrayed decent, principled everymen, though he subverted that archetype memorably as a ruthless outlaw in Sergio Leone's Once Upon a Time in the West. He also produced and starred in the landmark courtroom drama 12 Angry Men. Fonda received an Academy Honorary Award in 1981 and won the Academy Award for Best Actor for On Golden Pond shortly before his death in Los Angeles in 1982.
