Slim Aarons
Photographer: photographer, United States
Slim Aarons was an American photographer celebrated for capturing the glamorous leisure of post-war high society. After serving as an army combat photographer in the Second World War, he rejected further conflict imagery in favour of documenting what he famously described as attractive people doing attractive things in attractive places. Working frequently for publications like Holiday, Life, and Town & Country, Aarons photographed Hollywood celebrities, aristocrats, and industrialists by lavish poolsides in Palm Springs, Beverly Hills, and the Mediterranean. His candid, vibrant colour aesthetic became a lasting visual hallmark of twentieth-century affluence. He passed away in Montrose, New York, in 2006, leaving behind a distinctive and influential archive.
