Tyrone Power
Film: actor, United States
Tyrone Power was one of the preeminent romantic swashbucklers and box-office champions of twentieth-century Hollywood. Blessed with dark matinee-idol looks, he rose to top-tier stardom at 20th Century Fox in lavish adventure epics such as The Mark of Zorro and Blood and Sand. Determined to prove his dramatic range beyond dashing heroes, he delivered complex, career-defining performances in the dark carnival noir Nightmare Alley and Billy Wilder's courtroom thriller Witness for the Prosecution. After distinguished military service as a Marine pilot during the Second World War, his life was cut short when he suffered a fatal heart attack on set in Madrid in 1958 at age 44.
