Ingrid Bergman
Film: actress, Sweden
Ingrid Bergman was a Swedish actress whose luminous presence and natural acting style made her an enduring international star. Born in Stockholm, she found early success in Swedish cinema before producer David O. Selznick brought her to Hollywood. Her indelible turn as Ilsa Lund in Casablanca in 1942 established her globally, followed by Oscar-winning roles in Gaslight and Anastasia, and fruitful thrillers with Alfred Hitchcock. Bergman moved to Europe in the 1950s to collaborate with director Roberto Rossellini, later winning a third Oscar for Murder on the Orient Express. She died of breast cancer in London on her sixty-seventh birthday in August 1982.
