Jean Harlow
Film: actress, United States
Born Harlean Harlow Carpenter in Kansas City in 1911, Jean Harlow became one of the defining screen personalities of the early 1930s. Known as Hollywood's original 'Blonde Bombshell', she captured international attention in Howard Hughes's Hell's Angels in 1930. Moving to Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer, Harlow proved herself an extraordinarily sharp comedic actress, developing crackling on-screen chemistry with Clark Gable in classics like Red Dust and Saratoga, as well as shining in ensemble gems like Dinner at Eight. Harlow's remarkably vibrant career was cut tragically short when she died of kidney failure in Los Angeles in June 1937 at the age of twenty-six.
