Nick Drake
Music: singer, songwriter, guitarist, Myanmar
Nick Drake was an English singer-songwriter noted for his melancholic baritone, sophisticated open-tuned acoustic guitar work, and poetic lyricism. Born in Yangon in 1948, he recorded three remarkable studio albums between 1969 and 1972 for Island Records, culminating in the stark, unadorned classic Pink Moon. Highly reluctant to perform live or conduct interviews, Drake struggled with depression and commercial indifference during his lifetime. Decades after his passing, his delicate compositions found vast global admiration and critical reverence. He died from an overdose of prescribed antidepressants at his family home in Tanworth-in-Arden, Warwickshire, in November 1974 at age twenty-six.
