John Lennon

Music: singer, songwriter, guitarist, pianist, United Kingdom

John Lennon was an English singer, songwriter, and peace activist who co-founded The Beatles, the most commercially successful band in popular music history. Teaming with Paul McCartney, he authored a canon of timeless songs that propelled the British cultural explosion of the 1960s. Following the group's disbandment in 1970, he established an adventurous solo career characterised by raw emotional candour and outspoken political engagement, creating generational anthems including Imagine and Give Peace a Chance. After taking a five-year hiatus to raise his son, he returned to recording in 1980 with the album Double Fantasy. His life was tragically cut short when he was murdered in New York City later that year.
